HEATHER Heffernan is taking part in The Corinthian Challenge to get the charity race series off her bucket list! The popular Laois lass lives a stone throw away from the popular music festival Electric Picnic in Vicarstown just outside Stradbally.

Heather works on the family farm at home where she says they have a bit of everything going on from beef heifers to sheep and lamas to turtles.

“It’s a bit of a crazy farm. Everything you can think of, we have it!”

In addition to a busy workload on the farm, Heather also works the horse racing yard at home with her boyfriend James Fahey who took out his trainer’s licence earlier this year.

Together they named the yard Springfield Stables and it comprises of young point-to-point horses along with a few of their own horses for the track.

Speaking of how she got involved, Heather explained that she knew Lynn McLoughlin who won the challenge two years ago and she gave her a call to find out more about it and what is involved.

Deep down Heather had wanted to take part in the challenge for a long time. It was nagging at her and the ifs and buts all stopped as she decided to do something for herself for a change.

“I am constantly looking after the farm or the horses with James and I thought you know what, this is going to be my bucket list for 2019 – I’m going to tick it off and get it finished.”

The second race of The Corinthian Challenge took place at Cork Racecourse Mallow on Sunday, September 1st and Heather came in second place aboard Jazz Ranger. This puts Heather in contention for the overall series title which will be decided when the final race goes to post at Leopardstown Racecourse on October 26th.

Heather would like to thank everyone who has supported her thus far on her fundraising mission, especially Aisling Hurley, aka The Business Fairy, her main sponsor.
