Archie Macauley

CONGRATULATIONS are in order for jockey Archie Macauley (22). He rode his first winner when Play The Part (20/1) took the lead from Gleesons Tipp and Nina Carberry in Wexford.

“I didn’t really think I had much of a chance honestly! My horse flew once he got going on the straight. It was a great moment.”

At the moment Archie is in his last year of college. He mixes this with riding out whenever he can a few days a week for Peter Maher, Eddie Harty and Mark Roper. From Co Wicklow, this is his fourth ride in Ireland. Archie has also spent time in Australia working for Group 1 winning trainer Ciaron Maher. This world-travelling jockey has also worked in America where he got a ride as well.

After college he hopes to stick with horses for a time. If that doesn’t work out, Archie hopes to travel to Canada or Australia and see how it works for him there.

He’s soon heading off to America for another ride in Pennsylvania. This globe-trotting jockey will no doubt make a name for himself in the racing industry!
