NEWMARKET

IAN Williams’s stayers have been in outstanding form over the past couple of years and his Stars Over The Sea simply ran away with the Pantile Stud Cesarewitch Trial Handicap at Newmarket on Saturday. Whether the other jockeys were dozing is unclear but Pat Cosgrave soon built up a 20-length lead at halfway over the full two and a quarter mile trip. Tony Martin’s Golden Spear eventually came out of the pack to chase him up but the margin was still 10 lengths at the line with Williams’ Monjeni third.

Stars Over The Sea was with Henry de Bromhead before joining Williams. He has been gradually coming to hand and must enter the reckoning for the big autumn handicap, though bookmakers were inclined to view the run as a one-off and there were no major market moves.
