KAYLEY Woollacott’s Lalor, a former winner of the Aintree bumper, has been waiting to jump a fence in public and showed in the Arkle Trial, the Racing Post Arkle Trial Trophy Novices’ Chase, why he went into so many lists of horses to follow this term.

Always going easily and jumping well for Richard Johnson, he picked up the leaders going to three out, led soon after that fence and surged clear to beat Dynamite Dollars by seven lengths, with Claimantakinforgan a modest third.

TARGET

Lalor (11/2) handles ground softer than this, there is only one target for him. Those layers who went 8/1 for the Arkle immediately after the race may regret their stance.

“He’s got scope but he’s quite nimble and clever, as well,” Johnson enthused. “You’d think on his Aintree form he’d need further than two miles but all his form is at that trip and it makes sense to stay with it. You have to think of him as an Arkle horse.”
