SOME winners are simply unfindable except by fluke and 50/1 chance Dolphin Vista will have to go into that category after taking the Betfred Cambridgeshire.

There was a stunned silence as he moved through to lead his group towards the stands’ side and finally headed 100/1 shot Sands Chorus, who was rallying gamely after taking them along on the opposite wing. The margin was a length and a half and they were followed home by another 50/1 shot Cote D’Azur, with Chelsea Lad and Brorocco next. The latter saved quite a few each-way pounds with many layers paying out on the fifth.

Dolphin Vista was given every assistance by young George Wood, who can still claim 3lb, and quite possibly had the best strip of ground towards the near side. Even so, this was only his second outing for local handler Martyn Meade and not many horses leave Richard Fahey, only to land a major pot like this.

“He’d been doing really well at home and we’ve taken a lot of time with him,” Meade said. “We decided to wait for his ground, which meant going for this. Of course, it’s a surprise with 34 runners because anything can happen.”

In fairness, Dolphin Vista had finished fifth in this year’s Lincoln at Doncaster. However, he missed Brorocco’s Epsom race and finished last of nine here. Off for three months and having his first outing for Meade, he beat one home in a warm handicap at Sandown. Unfindable indeed.

AWESOME WIN

Fahey might have managed a small celebration himself but 100/30 favourite Clubbable, arriving late on the scene in the British EBF “Jersey Lily” Fillies’ Nursery, ran on with tremendous spirit up the hill but went down by a short-head to William Haggas’ Awesometank, who held on gamely for Andrea Atzeni with Dark Liberty only a further neck away in third.

Haggas’ first thought was that Awesometank had done enough for this season.
