NEWMARKET’S two-day meeting was titled Future Champions Weekend, an appropriate description for both Inspiral and Native Trail who both brought their A-game to the Rowley Mile to head into winter quarters as favourite their respective Guineas.

Inspiral (113) maintained her unbeaten record with a smooth success in the Group 1 Fillies Mile on the Friday.

Frankie Dettori took the decision to track Cachet on leaving the stalls with the pair racing away from the main body of the field and slightly behind in terms of ground.

However, the Italian exuded confidence despite the inconvenience, asking his mount to win her race as the groups converged at the three-furlong marker.

A closing sectional of 36.24 seconds saw her record a two-and-a-half length victory despite clocking the slowest closing furlong (13.16 seconds) of any winner on the day.

There was no doubt the John and Thady Gosden-trained filly was not fully extended so her overall rating can be upgraded significantly. The closing sectional breakdown also suggests quickening into the famous Newmarket Dip holds no fears, thinking ahead to next May, when she tackles the Qipco 1000 Guineas all being well, although she will face sterner opposition.

Cachet upgraded

Cachet (107) herself deserves a small upgrade given the hard work she did on behalf of the favourite early in the race. A respectable closing sectional of 36.89 seconds was hindered by a closing furlong of 13.52 seconds as George Boughey’s filly tired markedly.

The Aclaim filly obviously enjoys the demands of the Rowley Mile having previously chased home Hello You in the Group 2 Rockfel Stakes over a furlong shorter.

The eyecatcher from the rear of the field was Mise En Scene (107) who finished off in 36.59 seconds which, relative to those around her, enabled James Ferguson’s filly to grab fourth right on the line from the fading Wild Beauty (36.89 seconds) who was coincidentally the same distance behind the winner at Sandown.

Hung left

Concert Hall (previously 106) (36.85 seconds) initially quickened in similar fashion to Inspiral before patently failing to handle the track as she visibly hung left in posting the slowest closing two furlongs of those to the fore.
