Racing fans spend all season bemoaning the fact that courses put on gigs after racing and that the horses should be front and centre but a significant part of RA’s appeal to the general public is the fashion/ ceremony/ party. It’s a day out for them.

Lived up to this billing. Just a superb week of horse racing. An underdiscussed point on this is that its position in the season (compared to Cheltenham, Arc, Breeders Cup etc) means that a huge element of Royal Ascot is creating anticipation of what lies ahead.

There’s 7 Gp1s for sprinters & 4 for Gp1s at 1m 4f and three of them are at Epsom on the same weekend. Sprinters are over catered for, note the imbalance.

Madness. They obviously don’t want trainers, owners and breeders with smaller budgets.

This is where I am with it too. I can see how you could argue that encouraging ‘cheap speed’ (for want of a better phrase) is undesirable, but I just can’t see any upside to the new race. It’s just going to be a second division Coventry likely dominated by Coolmore and Godolphin.
