IT’S less than two months until Royal Ascot, and Wednesday’s meeting at the track provided us with some interesting trials to dissect, writes Page Fuller.

Sardinian Warrior landed the Queen Anne Stakes trial, and he certainly looks like he has improved again as a four-year-old.

His only defeat came on his racecourse debut in December 2023, and he was a very progressive type on the all-weather through 2024.

He won all three of his starts, which included bolting up in a handicap off a mark of 97.

However, what was most impressive about his win at Ascot on turf debut was the time he recorded.

He won his race in a time of 1 minute 36.73 seconds, and this received a rating of 9.9 out of 10 on our Time Index.

For extra context, it was also far quicker than the 1 minute 38.04 seconds that the Queen Anne was run in last year.

The horse he beat on Wednesday was second in the Queen Anne last year as well, so this form looks quite robust.

They went a nice even gallop through the race, and Sardinian Warrior was perfectly positioned just behind the leaders to take on the baton as they folded. His Finishing Speed Percentage of 102.09% highlights that he was able to quicken up enough to put the race to bed and maintain that powerfully to the line.

He wasn’t the fastest horse in the race; Docklands hit a Top Speed of 41.61mph compared to his of only 40.57mph in the penultimate furlong. It didn’t matter, though, as he had already nicked the race by that point.

There are some top level mile races to come in the next couple of months and, with his resolute attitude that he showed on Wednesday, it’s hard to believe he won’t be featuring in at least one of them.
