RYAN Moore was in dynamic form at Royal Ascot when he rode seven winners, taking his haul at the meeting to 99.
He also rode seven runners-up at the meeting, including the luckless Completely Random in the Wokingham last Saturday, writes Andy Stephens
The five-year-old, trained by Harry Charlton, had been a keeping on fifth in the six-furlongs cavalry charge 12 months earlier, and it looked a case of what might have been on this occasion after a sluggish start.
He was languishing in 25th place with two furlongs left to run, but then took off in his first-time cheekpieces to zoom past all bar the highly progressive Double Rush, who fended him off by a head.
Completely Random was joint fastest through the fourth furlong (11.09sec); fastest through the penultimate furlong (11.45sec) and easily fastest in the final furlong when the only runner to dip under 12 seconds (11.9sec).
The grey has a big handicap in him, especially if he can get away on terms, and I’d imagine the Coral Stewards’ Cup at Goodwood will be next on his agenda.
Social Symbol also needs monitoring after his keeping-on fourth in the Norfolk Stakes. The Simon and Ed Crisford-trained colt found everything happening much too quickly for him and was last of the 21 runners after three furlongs.
However, he stayed on resolutely and his final furlong of 12.16sec was the fastest of the whole field. He ran to par, whereas all his rivals recorded “blue” sectionals, being either slow or very slow.
It was too little too late for Social Symbol, but better can be expected once he moves up in trip.
