MINNIE Hauk stole the show on Thursday at York, landing a clean sweep of four Oaks from both sides of the Irish Sea, writes Page Fuller.
This was arguably her most impressive victory so far, and tees her up nicely for some of the Autumn showcases. She holds entries in both Irish and British Legers and Champion Stakes, and Aidan O’Brien sounded very game when talking about potential engagements in the Arc and Breeders’ Cup too.
The data backs up how excited we should be getting about this filly, too.
Garden Of Eden ensured a strong pace was set, clocking four ‘fast’ furlongs according to the RaceiQ Par Sectionals from the fourth furlong through to the seventh, which teed the race up perfectly.
From that point, Ryan Moore gradually moved up the gears on Minnie Hauk, quickening to a Peak Top Speed of 39.48 mph in the penultimate furlong. All of her rivals trailed in her wake, with Estrange only managing a Top Speed of 39.10 mph, and everything else more than a mile an hour slower.
This ability to quicken off such a strong gallop was particularly taking, and her win time looked quite special too.
It was the first race of the meeting to be run in a time quicker than our Par Time, coming in 1.13 seconds faster than Par. That rated 7.2 on the Time Index, which suggests that this is definitely an above-average performance in a race that traditionally throws up some very talented mares.
