WE have had a feast of action over the past 10 days, seeing off the jumps season with a bang at Punchestown and seeing in the flat season proper with the first classics of the season at Newmarket. There was plenty of top-class action through to Monday at the Curragh as well, and the data has thrown up a two-year-old that looks to have a very bright future, writes Page Fuller.

Lady Iman was an impressive winner of the five-furlong listed two-year-old race and backed up the promise she showed on debut. What is particularly eye-catching from her two performances, however, is the devastating turn of foot she’s shown on both occasions.

On debut, her top speed of 42 mph was nearly a mile and a half quicker than any other horse in the race, and she was the only horse to clock a sub-11 second furlong in the penultimate furlong.

At the Curragh on Monday, there may have been one horse that was quicker than her in the race, but she still hit a top speed of 42.31 mph and was the only horse to do it in the final furlong.

This was the second highest top speed of the whole meeting, and the fact that she hit this speed in the final furlong illustrates how easy it was for her to quicken up in this fashion.

She will find life a little tougher now moving into group company, but her three-year-old half-brother West Acre is already a Group 2-winner at this minimum distance, and she looks well-placed to follow in his footsteps.
