THE Restricted Trainers Association of Ireland honoured Michael Bowe with a Lifetime Achievement Award at Gowran Park last weekend.

Based at his family’s small yard in Gathabawn, Michael will forever be associated with Limestone Lad, a winner of 35 races between 1997 and 2002. Bred and owned by Michael’s father James, Limestone Lad won three Morgiana Hurdles, three Hatton’s Grace Hurdles and the 2002 Champion Stayers’ Hurdle.

Michael is also the registered breeder of Solerina, winner of 22 races for the family between 2002 and 2006.

RTAI chairman John Fitzgerald said: “Michael Bowe represents everything our association stands for. He showed a generation of small trainers that you can compete with anyone if you know your horses and you do the job right. Irish racing is richer for what he achieved, and this award is long overdue.”
