NIAMH Carr from Celbridge and Bobby Ring from Adare are the latest two recipients of Irish National Stud scholarships from the Gerry Dilger Equine Scholarship Foundation. These awards include full tuition at the INS for their Thoroughbred Breeding Management Course that has been educating young people in bloodstock since 1971.
Niamh studied Animal and Equine Science at UCD and has experience working at Owenstown Stud, Coolmore Stud and Ballydoyle Stables. While studying engineering at the Technological University of the Shannon, Bobby has worked with sport horses at Coolballyshan Stud and he also spent time at Paul and Marie McCartan’s Ballyphilip Stud.
Last October, the Foundation selected Conan Murray from Kildare and Mark Moloney from Waterford for similar scholarship programmes in Kentucky.
The Foundation was established by family and friends of the late Gerry Dilger. From Clare, Gerry arrived in Kentucky aged 19 and went on to establish Dromoland Farm. As well as being a highly-respected horseman, Gerry mentored a lot of young people who wanted to follow in his footsteps. He died in 2020, aged just 62.
