CLOSE to 30,000 people attended the four-day Tramore August Festival which ended last Sunday. This included an almost capacity crowd of nearly 10,000 people on Saturday evening.

Track manager Owen Byrne reported: “The weather played ball though it presented challenges in terms of providing safe ground. We had just 12ml of rain in the previous 14 weeks and none at all in the three weeks leading up to the Festival. That was unprecedented.”

Last year the Festival drew 26,000 racegoers and Owen did not expect to surpass that figure last week. He says online ticket sales were particularly strong, especially for the Friday night fixture. “There’s always a very relaxed atmosphere at Tramore and when the sun shines the facilities just work better.”

He added that he has never seen a bigger crowd at Tramore than the 9,000-plus who attended Saturday’s ‘Style Evening’.

Tramore’s next meeting is a student day on October 8th.
