THE number of racing people you’ll bump into at the Dublin Horse Show is endless, so we won’t even try to namecheck them all here.

But special mention must go to Edmond Mahony, chairman of Tattersalls and Tattersalls Ireland, who rode his own horse Northern Ranger to win its four-year-old heavyweight class before partnering it in the Main (Laya) Arena to be reserve four-year-old champion.

Edmond found the horse when inspecting yearlings last year. He was produced at Cabragh Lodge Stables whose owners Kieran and Mairead Ryan are parents of former champion apprentice James Ryan and amateur rider Ivan.

Willie Mullins, who was awarded honorary life membership of the RDS last month, was spotted in top hat and tails watching the Aga Khan Nations Cup.

As usual, ex-Mullins horses were prominent in Saturday’s Racehorse to Riding Horse Class which was won by his former Grade 1 winner Asterion Forlonge.
