Big prices on Gold Coast

THE first three sessions of the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale in Australia have produced encouraging results. Ten yearlings made Aus$1 million or more. Three were by Exceed And Excel and three were by I Am Invincible. Topping the sale so far is a Deep Impact colt from Arrowfield Stud who was bought by racehorse owner Ottavio Galletta for a sale record of A$1.9 million. The colt will be trained by Richard Litt. The sale continues this weekend and there will be a full report in The Irish Field next week.

Tattersalls catalogue out

THE catalogue for the Tattersalls Ireland February NH Sale is online and hard copies will be available from Wednesday. The one-day sale (Tuesday, January 28th) will offer 321 lots including older horses, two-year-olds, yearlings and mares.

Group 1 winner for sale

GROUP 1 winner Verbal Dexterity will be offered for sale at the Goffs February Sale. The five-year-old son of Vocalised was trained by Jim Bolger to win the Goffs Vincent O’Brien National Stakes as a juvenile. He is one of the 546 lots in the February Sale catalogue which has just been published.

Dylan Robinson returns

JUMP jockey Dylan Robinson will make a high-profile return to race-riding at Fairyhouse today. Yesterday the 24-year-old from Waterford regained his riding licence after serving one year of a three-year drugs ban. After reviewing the suspension the IHRB reinstated his licence “subject to certain conditions”. He is due to ride top-weight Ornua in the Grade A Dan & Joan Moore Memorial Handicap Chase.

Paddy Power sponsors Cup

PADDY Power will sponsor next month’s Irish Gold Gup at Leopardstown after signing a one-year deal.

Sioux Nation first foal

GROUP 1 Phoenix Stakes winner Sioux Nation sired his first foal last weekend. Waterford breeder Richie Fitzgerald of Ballinasisla Stud reported that his mare Samadom, who has already had three juvenile winners, produced a filly by the Scat Daddy horse. Fitzgerald said: “I’m very happy with the foal. She has class, is correct and moves well.”
