Taragh Brady joins Tattersalls Ireland

TARAGH Brady has been appointed sales and marketing executive with Tattersalls Ireland.

A marketing and event management graduate of Dublin Business School, the Meath woman brings considerable digital marketing experience and training to the role as she previously held the position of marketing manager for a Dublin company.

She has also gained a valuable insight into the bloodstock industry from being part of Tattersalls Ireland sales day rostrum and bloodstock team for the past six years.

Tattersalls Ireland CEO Matt Mitchell said: “Taragh was the outstanding candidate for the role and brings a wealth of bloodstock knowledge and social media expertise. I firmly believe Taragh will be a tremendous asset to the Tattersalls Ireland marketing team and I look forward to her implementing her ideas.”

Irish mare to run in inaugural Saudi Cup

MAGIC Wand is set to have her first start on dirt in the $20 million Saudi Cup on February 29th. The Aidan O’Brien-trained globetrotter is one of 11 invited runners for the first edition of the nine-furlong race in Riyadh. Further details are on page 47.

Paul Blockley dies in France

FORMER trainer Paul Blockley has died in France, aged 61. He trained approximately 300 winners including Zafisio, winner of the Group 1 Criterium International at Saint-Cloud in 2008.

Shortly afterwards he began a two-and-a-half year ban from racing over corruption charges.

His long-term partner Jo Hughes took over the licence.

In 2006 Blockley saddled Wait Watcher to finish first past the post in the Goffs Million at the Curragh but the horse was demoted for causing interference and the race awarded to Miss Beatrix.

HRI seeks interns

HORSE Racing Ireland (HRI) has launched its 2020 summer student internship programme. There are a number of paid placements available, commencing in June 2020 and running for 12 weeks throughout the summer to the end of August.

The programme is open to all third level students in any college year of any course. Students will benefit from mentoring by experienced professionals which will allow them to develop their practical skills in a fast-paced environment while gaining valuable experience of the work which goes on behind the scenes in the Irish racing and breeding industry.
