Top-class Trail

Sir,

I write to say how much I enjoyed participating on the Thoroughbred Trail before racing at the Curragh on Sunday.

My ‘Trail’ comprised visits to the yards of Dermot Weld, James Nash and Dick Brabazon. Sally, our guide, was so friendly and knowledgeable.

It was a great experience to stand beside Dermot Weld and hear him speak. James Nash and his wife Sarah were so welcoming, and Ruby Walsh dropped in for a chat, as he does!

Dick Brabazon was also very interesting and hospitable. He had a nice surprise for us at the end where he introduced us to his most recent equine guest, Deirdre, the Japanese horse who had finished fourth in the Champion Stakes at Leopardstown on Saturday.

I could have stayed with them all day. It was brilliant. I wish to thank everyone involved in putting together a fabulous day’s entertainment. I am already looking forward to next year’s Trail.

Yours etc.,

Magical two days

Sir,

I was unable to attend either Leopardstown or the Curragh last weekend but I was glued to the television coverage on both days. It was a magical two days and I am not just referring to the racing.

Anyone associated with the Cancer Trials Ireland fundraising should be very proud of themselves. They should be acknowledged for what they achieved. In particular the Champions Race on Sunday was a terrific spectacle. None of the jockeys had forgotten how to ride! It was competitive but also done in good humour. I look forward to seeing the video footage recorded by the cameras on their helmets.

The Group 1 races provided their own drama, my own personal highlight being the Irish St Leger win for Moyglare Stud, who put so much into the game, and ridden by Chris Hayes, a man who continues to represent Limerick horsemanship so well. You couldn’t have written a better script - well done to you all. I was drained just watching it all unfold!

Yours etc.,
