Why don’t more breeders go racing?

Sir, - Another Irish Champions Weekend has come and gone with, again, disappointing attendances at both the Curragh and Leopardstown.

What they have to do to get people to support racing, especially flat racing, I don’t know.

According to the Irish Thoroughbred Marketing website that there are over 7,000 registered breeders in Ireland. How many of these attended Champions Weekend? It’s my belief that attending the races is a low priority for racehorse breeders.

Imagine the boost it would give to attendances if even 75% of the 7,000 registered breeders attended just one meeting a week. If the foundation rock of racing is the breeders, and they do not support racing, why are the general public always expected to take up the slack? – Yours etc
