I read with interest your comments last Saturday (June 23rd, page A3) on the evergreen Sir Michael Stoute and a USA race restricted to trainers who are aged 90 or more. Your headline summed it up: ‘Experience – there is no substitute’.

Co Clare has always had its fair share of licence holders. Winners at Cheltenham, Aintree, Royal Ascot and beyond have been celebrated over the years.

Who has been the Banner County’s joint leading flat trainer in each of the past two seasons? Step forward the legendary John L. Hassett, now comfortably into his eighth decade and his younger brother, Paddy, a mere child at 78! Mol an Óige. – Yours etc.,
