NO trainer in the world is as deep in the turf stakes division as Chad Brown.

With Flintshire on one side and a slew of fillies and mares on the other, Brown picks and chooses like an incoming president picks his cabinet.

Back in June, Brown went 1-2-3 in the Grade 2 New York Stakes for fillies and mares on the Belmont turf. That day, Dacita beat Sea Calisi who bested Guapaza. Since then, Brown pointed Dacita to the Grade 1 Diana: she won. He maneuvered Guapaza to the River Memories and the Grade 3 Waya: she won both of them. Lastly, he aimed Sea Calisi to the Beverly D at Arlington Park. You guessed it, she won.

Owned by Martin Schwartz, the four-year-old French-bred daughter of Youmzain rallied from 11th in the field of 14 to win by a half-length over locally-based Al’s Gal and Zipessa. Ridden by Florent Geroux, who took four stakes on the afternoon, Sea Calisi picked up her fourth career win and second since leaving Francois Doumen’s stable last fall. Based in Saratoga for the first time this summer, Geroux made sure Brown knew he was ready and willing.

“He’s one of the hottest trainers in North America right now and number one on turf. I went to visit him when I was in Saratoga and asked if he could give me some horses since I’m doing quite good on the turf. We agreed to come here together and he gave me those very nice horses to ride,” Geroux said.

Schwartz was ecstatic while enjoying the best customer service of any racetrack in the world. “It’s a great place, a great race and great people,” Schwartz said. “It’s a beautiful racetrack, a fair surface, other than being out in the parking lot to start, Florent with his beautiful ride overcame that. We couldn’t be more overjoyed.”

Brown swept three stakes, winning the Beverly D, the Secretariat and the Pucker Up on Arlington’s biggest day of the season.

“I’m lucky to have this filly. She came to me in good shape. Michele Zerolo found her, they work well as a team,” Brown said. “They find these wonderful horses for us to work with, I’m just lucky to have her.”

Brown’s luck began when Beach Patrol got the best of Aidan O’Brien’s Long Island Sound in the Grade 1 Secretariat Stakes. Owned by James Covello, Sheep Pond Partners and Head of Plains Partners, Beach Patrol stalked the pace and staved off Long House Sound by a head in the $450,000 stakes. Brown’s luck continued in the finale, when Noble Beauty split Try Your Luck and Auntie Joy in the Grade 3 Pucker Up. After an inquiry and a claim of foul, stewards demoted Try Your Luck to third for interfering with Auntie Joy. Brown had his third win of the day.
