STEEL Bull and Miss Amulet have done wonders for the reputation of the Tattersalls Ascot Yearling Sale in recent weeks.

Bought and trained by Michael O’Callaghan, Steel Bull was picked up for just £15,000 at this sale last year and he was no doubt sold for many times that figure following his success in the Group 3 Molecomb Stakes at Goodwood.

Credit must go to bloodstock agent Michael Donohoe of BBA Ireland for purchasing Miss Amulet for a mere £7,500 at Tattersalls Ascot. Ken Condon’s charge won the Group 2 Lowther Stakes at York in great style and is said to be in great form ahead of a tilt at the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes on September 26th.

Other recent graduates of this sale include Liberty Beach, Shadn, Summer Sands and Urban Icon.

This year’s Ascot Yearling Sale takes place next Monday (September 7th) and it will be staged at Park Paddocks in Newmarket, where the facilities are more amenable to social distancing guidelines.

There are 257 yearlings catalogued, all of which are eligible for the £150,000 Tattersalls October Auction Stakes.

The catalogue includes:

A total of 96 siblings to two-year-old winners and 69 yearlings out of mares who won at two years of age. There are 20 siblings to blacktype performers including Miss Amulet.

A number of leading consignors are supporting this year’s sale with the largest consignments coming from Ballyhane, Culworth Grounds, Houghton Bloodstock, Grangemore Stud, Mickley Stud, Norris Bloodstock, Rathbarry Stud, Tally-Ho Stud, Trickledown Stud, Voute Sales, WH Bloodstock, Whitsbury Manor and Whatton Manor Stud.

The sire index makes for impressive reading with the current leading second crop sire Night Of Thunder responsible for three offerings in the sale along with Showcasing who similarly has three yearlings catalogued. Other leading sires represented include Acclamation, Dandy Man, Due Diligence, Holy Roman Emperor, Iffraaj and Zoffany.

Eleven of the 12 current leading first season sires are represented including a colt by Europe’s leading first season sire by earnings, Goken, and the only offering by the sire catalogued in any select UK yearling sale. Also included are progeny by Adaay, Belardo, Coulsty, Estidhkaar and Mehmas.

Those looking for first crop yearling sires will find 11 freshmen represented including Aclaim, Ardad, Cotai Glory, El Kabeir, Postponed, Profitable, Ribchester and Ulysses.

Tattersalls has produced a set of Covid-19 protocols for all those attending the sale. As with recent sales held at Park Paddocks, this sale will be restricted to those attending in a professional capacity. All those planning to attend are asked to familiarise themselves with the respective protocols for the sale which can be downloaded in full from the Tattersalls website.

Those who cannot attend but wish to bid can do so by phone or online through the new Tattersalls live bidding platform.
