GORDON Elliott was the recipient of a number of the best lots on offer through the first two days at Goffs and, for good measure, he will also take charge of the top lot from Part 2 of the sale.

The Land Rover Sale’s top consignor Peter Nolan was also responsible for Thursday’s session-topper, a €65,000 daughter of Blue Bresil who was bought by Aidan O’Ryan.

He reported that this daughter of a three-time winning daughter of Flemensfirth was purchased on behalf of long-established clients of the trainer who look to pick up a couple of quality store fillies each year.

Wisely chosen

Bobby O’Ryan rounded off his spending for the week when forking out €55,000 for a daughter of the ever-popular Well Chosen.

This filly is a half-sister to a number of winners and received a timely boost to her pedigree when her half-sister Apple Crumble landed a winners’ bumper at Punchestown two weeks ago. Also related to the Irish St Leger second Massiyn, this filly will be joining the Elliott team.

O’Ryan added to his haul when giving €38,000 for a son of Canford Cliffs offered by Carrolls Grove Bloodstock. This gelding is out of a Sea The Stars half-sister to a stakes winner and Royal Mougins, who was a highly successful jumper on the continent.

Dual-purpose appeal

Champion trainer Willie Mullins will train a well-related Shirocco gelding from Peter Molony’s Rathmore Stud who was knocked down to Harold Kirk for €46,000.

This gelding is a half-brother to the high-class hurdler Rashaan who was successful at Grade 2 and Grade 3 level, while another sibling is the former Irish 2,000 Guineas second Rayeni. Kirk reported that the gelding, who shares his sire with former Mullins great Annie Power, was bought with a dual-purpose career in mind.

Eclectic mix

A number of the days higher priced lots came from varied backgrounds and these included a €41,000 son of the French sire Blek who was knocked down to 5 Star Bloodstock. He was sold by Oak Tree Farm and his sire was successful at Group 2 level during a flat career that yielded 11 victories.

At the start of the day Ross Doyle spent €38,000 on a son of Poetic Flare’s sire Dawn Approach. The Torard House Stud offering is out of a daughter of the Group 1 Prix Saint-Alary winner and Prix de Diane runner-up Nadia.

Meanwhile, Joey Logan forked out €34,000 for a daughter of the Derby and Arc de Triomphe winner Workforce who relocated to Ireland in 2017 after spending five seasons at stud in Japan. This filly is out of a winning own-sister to the very smart Grangeclare Lark.

Workforce was also responsible for the last lot in the ring this week and the very popular filly related to the Grand Annual Chase winner Sky Pirate was snapped up by Colin Bowe for €37,000.
