DR ADRIAN McGoldrick, the Turf Club’s senior medical officer, updated The Irish Field yesterday on the prospects for recovery by Ruby Walsh from the fracture of his right tibia (lower leg) after falling at Punchestown last weekend.

Asked if the champion jockey could possibly be fit for the Dublin Racing Festival at Leopardstown in early February, Dr McGoldrick said: “For a tibia the standard recovery time is three months. We’re only a week in so we’ll see how it goes. It’s a clean fracture and no two fractures are the same. As of now, Cheltenham is likely and anything else is a bonus.”

FRACTURE

Conor Brassil suffered the same fracture (right tibia) at Fairyhouse two weeks ago and will be out for at least three months. Scott McCullagh sustained a serious injury to his right knee schooling and will be out for three to four months, while Cormac Abernethy will be out for three months with a broken femur.

Also on the sidelines are Simon Cavanagh, who sustained a fractured jaw while schooling, and point-to-point rider Paul John O’Neill, who broken his right tibia and will be out for three to four months.
