RUBY Walsh will see his own doctor today and will then be examined by Turf Club medical officer Dr Adrian McGoldrick who will assess if the champion jump jockey is fit to ride at next week’s Punchestown Festival.

Walsh suffered a hairline wrist fracture in a fall at Aintree which ruled him out of the Grand National.

Dr McGoldrick reported: “I hope to see Ruby on Saturday but he can be reassessed on Sunday or Monday if necessary. I’m looking positively at the situation.”

Danny Mullins is certain to be back for the festival after making a quick recovery from a knee operation he underwent in mid-February following a fall at Newbury. Dr McGoldrick said: “Danny has been cleared by his orthopaedic surgeon, has been to Santry for rehab and it’s just a matter of signing him off.”

Brian Hayes is another rider awaiting assessment and hopefully clearance from Dr McGoldrick on Monday. He has not ridden since suffering a broken pelvis in a gallops fall in early March.

Dr McGoldrick also had news of Johnny Burke who will be sidelined for around three months following the back injury he suffered in a gallops incident earlier this month. “Johnny had a painful weekend but is in better form now.”
