HUNDREDS of showing and jumping exhibitors have been left disappointed as Royal Windsor Horse Show in Britain has been cancelled today.

Torrential rain caused flooding in the public car park and lorry parks in the show grounds, overlooked by Windsor Castle.

A statement from the show organisers read: “The Organisers of Royal Windsor Horse Show have announced that today’s show (Wednesday 11th May) is cancelled due to flooding in the public car park and lorry parks. The rain is expected to leave by lunchtime and tomorrow’s events are planned to go ahead as usual. More updates will be available on the Show website www.rwhs.co.uk and through social media.”

Among the showing classes due to take place today were hunter weight classes, amateurs, novices and ridden sport horses, as well as Hackneys and Anglo Arabs.

Also on today's sechedule were the national jumping classes and the national dressage competitions.

The five-day show has been running annually since 1943 and is the only British show to host international competition for all the disciplines of dressage, show jumping, carriage driving and endurance.

In all, the show hosts more than 130 showing classes and 3,500 competitors across all disciplines.

The cancellation of today’s classes will have a knock-on effect for tomorrow’s competitors arriving to the stabling area today.

On the show’s Facebook page, organisers added: “The site is unsafe for lorries, so we are not able to accept any vehicle onto the showground or in the lorry park. Therefore you will not be able to stable this evening, we will be in contact directly if you have booked this.We are very sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, you will automatically receive a full refund once the Show is finished.”
