ALBERTO Hawa Ascencio’s qualifying ticket to the RDS is in doubt as it has emerged that he did not follow the correct entry procedures for the RDS qualifiers.

Riding Greg Broderick’s Billy Cevelle, the young Mexican rider (14) took the win in the 1.25/1.30m in the young rider division at Mullingar but did not appear on the official startlist.

A spokesperson for the SJI said: “The athlete in question did not declare through the Showjumping Ireland online declaration system as per rule number 3 of the RDS Qualifying rules 2016. As a result, his name was not published on the official start list issued by Showjumping Ireland.”

The rules as published on the SJI system state: “All entries must be made via the SJI online declaration system (on sji.ie) by the close of entries as published in the SJI Bulletin. A booking fee structure will apply whereby, a non-refundable booking fee of €10 per animal must be paid with the entry (in accordance with Article 292N.1.7),the balance will be paid to the secretary at the qualifier.”
