RACEHORSE owner Eugene Kavanagh of The Gravediggers pub in Glasnevin, Dublin, died recently. His orange and purple halved colours were frequent visitors to the winner’s enclosure. Charlie Swan and Enda Bolger trained many winners for him and he had success with trainers Shane Duffy and John Larkin in recent times.

Banker Burke ran in his name at Kilbeggan on Friday evening.

His most recent winners included War Room, Roryslittlesister, House Limit and Love Rory. His son Niall always accompanied him to the races. He is survived by his wife Kathleen and five other children. Charlie Swan said: “Eugene loved his horses and was very enthusiastic. I rode for him as a jockey and he was good enough to support me as a trainer.”
