BORN To Size relished the switch to larger obstacles when getting off the mark in the Munster Beginners Chase at Thurles.

Without a win from six starts over hurdles, Liam Burke's inmate looked much more at home over fences and put in a fine round of jumping to score in good style at 2/1.

Sent straight to the front by Robbie Power, the five-year-old stayed on well to see off the challenge of Youcantcallherthat and register a comfortable four-length success.

The winning trainer said: "He was frustrating and can be highly strung but jumped perfect. He jumped brilliant the whole way and he didn't go mad.

"When the other horse (Silent Account) took him on for the lead I was a bit concerned but he wasn't stupid about it and used his brain today, which he wasn't doing over hurdles.

"I might see what handicap mark he gets now and find another race over fences."

DRAMA

Grey Mountain Mist (12/1) opened his account over fences at the fifth attempt in the Thurles Handicap Chase.

With any number still in with a chance turning for home, it was Danny Mullins' mount that emerged to take it up approaching the last and kept on well to cross the line two and a quarter lengths clear of Bellgrove.

There was drama in the Devils Bit 3-Y-O Maiden Hurdle as Apparition battled back to justify 5/4 favouritism in thrilling fashion.

Mitchouka looked to be on his way to an easy National Hunt debut for Gigginstown House Stud when cruising into the lead under Davy Russell after the penultimate flight, but Gordon Elliott's charge began to tire after the last and Joseph O'Brien's runner kept on well to get back up by a nose.

Elliott gained swift compensation for the same owners in the www.thurlesraces.ie Maiden Hurdle as Vengeful (7/4) stayed on well for Jack Kennedy to deny fellow Gigginstown representative Dis Donc by a head.

Russell got on the scoresheet as Mullinavat continued his progress by completing a hat-trick with ease in division one of the Templemore Handicap Hurdle.

Henry de Bromhead's 1/3 travelled smoothly into the lead rounding the home turn and eased clear to record a two-and-a-half-length verdict over Hughies Bay

The second instalment saw Michael Hourigan's Fairymount Boy (6/1) follow up his recent Gowran success by a length and three-quarters from Whoyakodding.

Antimatter (14/1) denied the well-fancied Swingbridge (13/8 fav) by three-quarters of a length to land the Cashel Handicap Hurdle, and Holding Pattern (8/1) powered five and a half lengths clear of The Granson for an impressive victory in the Go Racing At Thurles Racecourse Flat Race.
