DISKO produced a brilliant front-running display in the Flogas Novice Chase at Leopardstown.

The Noel Meade-trained grey had just a length to find on Our Duke on their meeting over three miles at Christmas and ridden more positively over this shorter trip he comfortably reversed the form.

The 6/1 shot was bounced out in front by Sean Flanagan - riding his first Grade 1 winner - and some bold leaps over the third- and second-last fences kept up the momentum.

Our Duke chased him down in the straight, but Disko winged the last and kept up the gallop to score comfortably by a length and three-quarters lengths.

The big disappointment of the race was Bellshill, with the 6/5 favourite well beaten off when coming to grief at the final obstacle.

Meade said: "It's a great thrill to have one to jump as well that and it never really looked a problem, he was gaining ground at every fence. Everything seemed to be going really well and it's lovely to be able to watch something like that.

"You would never be confident in a Grade 1, especially with the lads in behind you. You never want to build your confidence up too much, but I was happy when he jumped the last.

"It might have been the trip the last day. That trip (two-mile-five) seems to suit him and that'll be the way we go I'd imagine.

"I'd say Cheltenham ground will suit him all right - the usual Cheltenham ground. I would never think that he would want quick ground. He's a beautiful-moving horse."

A delighted Flanagan said: "He's had his little bits of problems here and there, but today he's shown what he is. He's got his jumping together which is the main thing, and got into a great rhythm. It's great to get that first Grade 1 win, although it's taken me a while to get it."

Paddy Power cut the winner to 8/1 from 16/1 for the JLT Novices' Chase at Cheltenham.
