MOONLIT Show landed a rare old gamble to give Newmarket-based Charlie Fellowes his first winner in Ireland in the Listed Blenheim Stakes at Fairyhouse.

The Showcasing filly broke her maiden at the third time of asking at Haydock last time out but was readily available at 16/1 prior to the race. However, just five minutes before the off support began to mount for the Billy Lee-ridden contender and she was sent off at 6/1.

Having set a steady tempo in the first half of the race, Lee nicked a three-length advantage with two furlongs to run and caught the rest napping.

John Oxx's 5/2 favourite Born To Be got going too late and was catching hand over fist as the line approached, but Lee's mount maintained a one-and-three-quarter-length advantage as they crossed the line.

The jockey said: "Charlie was very confident. He told me to be good and positive. She jumped out, got an easy enough lead and kicked off the bend."

Speaking from the sales, a delighted Fellowes said: "That's my first stakes winner so it's a huge monkey off my back. She's a very nice filly but she must have soft ground.

"She's won that pretty easily in the end and won with plenty left in the tank. There's a Group 2 at Maisons-Laffitte (Criterium de Maisons-Laffitte, October 14th) which we could supplement her for.

"I've no idea where the money came from, but she wasn't right when she got beaten at Wolverhampton and then we just got away with the ground at Haydock. We had her in the Firth of Clyde but the ground got too quick at Ayr. Ground is key to her and she's pretty smart."

QUICK DOUBLE

Dinky Inty (6/1) followed up a win in a Naas claimer last week by taking the Become A Member At Fairyhouse Nursery Handicap by a neck. Racing from a 13lb higher mark, Tim Doyle's filly responded to Gary Halpin's urgings to hold off 5/4 favourite Catch A Wave in a thrilling finish at Fairyhouse.

"She's very game and tough. Gary said she is all heart," said Doyle. "He felt the ground was a little bit deep for her but her heart pulled her through. She has a great attitude. I'm delighted with her. It's hard to win two in a row. She'll need a little bit of a break after that and we'll find another nursery for her."

Jim Bolger's Miss Qatar (4/1) showed the benefit of track craft when winning the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden by two lengths for Kevin Manning.

"She had two good runs under her belt and I thought experience was key," said Manning. "I had a lovely position and was tracking Declan (McDonogh on Comhghairdeas) as I felt he was one of the main dangers. The ground out there is hard work and it's definitely soft."

Enter The Red justified 5/1 favouritism in the Your Clubs Fundraiser At Fairyhouse, Enquire Today Apprentice Handicap under Tom Madden.

Trainer Aidan Howard said: "We'll maybe go to the Curragh for the last meeting as he likes it there. Hopefully whoever rides him there will take their time."
