LADY Aurelia just lasted out the six furlongs as she retained her unbeaten record in the Group 1 Darley Prix Morny at Deauville.

Wesley Ward's flying machine showed tremendous speed from the start and was soon in command under Frankie Dettori, who was winning the race for the third year running. She had left a big impression with her victory in the Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot over five furlongs and her class saw her through the extra furlong as the 2-7 favourite triumphed over the colts to claim the spoils.

The Freddy Head-trained Alrahma was second, with Aidan O'Brien's Peace Envoy third. Al Johrah was fourth and Tis Marvellous, trained by Clive Cox, last of the five runners.

Lady Aurelia remained unchanged at 6-1 for the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot with Paddy Power. Coral cut her to that price from 8-1.

"I was very excited and elated. It was wonderful," said Ward of his three-quarters-of-a-length winner. "I trained her a little light to give her a bit of time after she came home (from Royal Ascot) and she came back a little tired after this race, understandably because she wasn't up to what she was at Ascot.

"She'd breezed four times up to this, so I think this race is going to set her right off to the next one and that's the Cheveley Park (at Newmarket)."

O'Brien was pleased with the way Peace Envoy finished the race. Speaking from the Curragh, he said: "I'm very happy with him and I'd imagine he'll have no problem getting another furlong looking at that. He made up a lot of ground and came home very well."

Speedy Boarding gave Newmarket trainer James Fanshawe his second victory in three years in the Darley Prix Jean Romanet when bounding home at Deauville. He was also successful with Ribbons in 2014.

Sayana made the early running until Irish raider Bocca Baciata went on just after halfway. However, Jessica Harrington's challenger could not keep up the gallop and she weakened in the final quarter-mile.

Speedy Boarding was produced with a well-timed run by Freddie Tylicki and went on to win in good style from Andre Fabre's Ame Bleue with the David Smaga-trained Steip Amach third. Neither of David Simcock's two runners, Bateel or Carnachy, made the places.

Speedy Boarding took the lucrative prize by a length and three-quarters, and Fanshawe said: "I'm absolutely delighted. She's always been a nice filly. Maybe we ran her back a bit quick last time when she disappointed in the Pretty Polly (at the Curragh), but we aimed her at this race and she did it really nicely.

"It's great because it's Freddie's first Group 1 winner and it's also great for the owners and breeders. The ground dried out a bit which probably paid to her strengths.

"She'll be entered in the Prix de l'Opera this week and we have to decide, if the ground is OK, whether we go for that or to Ascot for the fillies' and mares'. She's won two group races in France now."
