Red-hot favourite Minding duly landed the odds in the Qatar Nassau Stakes at Goodwood. The Aidan O'Brien-trained filly was adding another Group 1 prize to her laurels this season, following victories in the 1000 Guineas, Oaks and Pretty Polly Stakes.

Sent off the 1-5 market leader in a five-runner field, Ryan Moore did not panic when caught in a pocket three furlongs out and gradually turned the screw on the outside with a quarter of a mile to run.

The daughter of Galileo took a few strides to fully see off the persistent challenge of Queen's Trust (16-1), but, in the end, was well on top for a length-and-a-quarter success.

Moore said: "It was always going to be a messy sort of race today. It was just a case of keeping it as simple as we could, she has an awful lot of class and was only doing what she had to do.

"She's a very special filly to keep coming back like she does, she's run in seven Group 1s and won six of them. It's hard to compare (horses), it's hard to know how good she is, she's doing it over a variety of trips and only does what she has to do."

Andrew Balding's Dancing Star ended 24 years of hurt for fillies in the Stewards' Cup when emulating her distant relative Lochsong in the Qatar-sponsored sprint at Goodwood.

The last time a distaffer made it on to the roll of honour was when the four-year-old Lochsong destroyed her rivals. Now the sky could be the limit for Dancing Star, who was notching a fourth success from only five outings in 2016.

Having crept into the race as the last horse to make the cut, the well-supported 9-2 favourite was always in a handy position for David Probert and held a definite lead approaching the final furlong.

Several rivals threw down challenges, but in the final 50 yards the Jeff Smith-owned three-year-old was going away from them and scored by a length and a quarter and a nose from Orion's Bow and Raucous.

Balding is now keen to see his stable star enjoy a short break before coming back for one race at the end of the season.

He said: "We are very blessed and lucky to have a filly as good as this. I think after her busy spell she should have a holiday at the Littleton Stud and then we can bring her back for the big sprint on Champions Day at Ascot.

"She will be an even better filly next year and we have much to look forward to. I'm also thrilled for Jeff, who has been the most loyal supporter of the yard for many, many years."

Smith paid his own compliment to the winner and said: "She's a grand-daughter of Lochangel who was herself a half-sister to Lochsong, but this filly is a step ahead of Lochsong already as she's won it a year earlier."

Probert was overjoyed with his mount and commented: "We were lucky to creep in at the bottom and got a lovely draw. I had prayed to the gods that she would get in. Thank god she got in."
