Johnny Murtagh saddled a double at Fairyhouse, starting with Time To Reason opening his account at the fourth time of asking in the Family Day At Fairyhouse July 10th Maiden.

The 72-rated runner was sent off an 11/4 chance after finishing second at Leopardstown last time. Connor King made sure he kept favourite Flowerhill Diva in his sights as he set the early tempo.

The market leader was still in front over a furlong out, but Time To Reason picked him up in the closing stages before going on to win by a length and three quarters.

Murtagh said: "He'd a nice run in Dundalk but had sore shins after it. His last couple of runs have been progressive, and it's nice to get a three-year-old maiden winner.

"It all worked out nicely, and Connor felt when he pulled him out he was always going to win. He's a solid, tough little horse and will go for handicaps. I'd like him to stay on 72!"

Murtagh's double was completed when Sister Blandina landed the La Bucca Restaurants Handicap.

Pat Smullen moved the 5/1 chance into contention on the back straight and the three-year-old filly travelled much the best before stretching on to beat Lord Justice by two and a half lengths.

The trainer said: "She missed the kick at Ballinrobe last time and was out wide and never really got involved but Fairyhouse is ideal for her - a big galloping track, and she was able to sit second and got there well. She appreciated a bit of ease in the ground.

"The owner (Stephen Harris from Clarinbridge) would like to go to Galway; the track wouldn't really suit her but Pat said she is learning all the time."
