Lagostovegas' triumph in the Ladbrokes Ireland Handicap Hurdle was the highlight of a treble for Willie Mullins at Listowel on Thursday.

The 5/2 favourite was up 9lb for her recent Killarney success but strolled to the front on the run to the second-last, seemingly full of running.

She skipped over the last but Davids Charm made a late challenge and Ruby Walsh had to get to work on Lagostovegas to score by a neck.

Mullins said: "She was very slick at the last and that was probably the difference between winning and losing. We were fortunate the winning post came soon enough.

"The prize-money is good and we took our chance on the ground. She would prefer more of a test of stamina. We will keep our options open on the flat, and the Cesarewitch is a likely target. She's plenty big enough to go over fences next year."

Coquin Mans was workmanlike rather than spectacular in winning the Island (Q.R.) Race.

The 1/4 favourite, who brought a four-race unbeaten record to the table - three over hurdles since joining Mullins - looked likely to score easily when cruising to the front over a furlong out.

However, he didn't put the race to bed straight away and had to pull out all the stops under Patrick Mullins to see off Ask Susan by two and a quarter lengths.

Mullins said: "He ran very cold there, whereas in his hurdle races he takes a huge grip and Ruby can hardly hold him. That's why we have a hood and a chifney on him.

"It's obviously the hurdles that light him up rather than racing. Patrick said when he picked him up he wasn't sure what was going to happen. He thought he was going to win easy and then he didn't pick up.

"Maybe in these flat races we can leave all the gear off him."

The Mullins treble was completed by Ben Button's victory in the concluding Devon Inn Hotel Handicap Hurdle, with Walsh steering the even-money favourite home a length and a half in front of Seskinane.

MEADE WINNER

Une Lavandiere overcame a last-flight blunder to land the Kevin McManus Beginners Chase.

Noel Meade's 11/4 joint-favourite had just taken it up when producing an awkward leap, but Sean Flanagan got her back on an even keel and she held Red River Gold by half a length, with the same distance back to the gallant Hand Of The King.

Highland Fling ran out a clear-cut winner of the Behans Horseshoe Bar & Restaurant Handicap.

Gavin Cromwell's five-year-old was disappointing on his previous outing at the Curragh but bounced back in style, taking up the running on the turn for home.

He established a significant advantage at that point and although Oiche Mhaith Boy tried to give chase, it was in vain as Highland Fling (9/2) coasted home by two and a half lengths.

The Last Indian completed a hat-trick in the Byrne Family Handicap.

Aidan Howard's filly has been a different animal since going handicapping, winning at Tipperary and Navan, and although she was 21lb higher than when her spree began, she answered all of Pat Smullen's questions to outbattle Ecoeye by three-quarters of a length as the 100/30 favourite.

Howard said: "I was very worried about the ground but Pat twisted my arm and he was 100% right. My staff have done a great job keeping her healthy and fit as the family are all quirky.

"We may look at another handicap, and then we will go hurdling. She has a mark of 83 over hurdles."

Following an encouraging fourth at Tipperary a couple of weeks ago, the John Murphy-trained Brazos (9/2) made it second-time lucky in the MAC Fuels & General Supplies Maiden.

Solo Saxophone cut out the running and looked likely to see off all challengers, but Brazos loomed up a furlong out and saw out his race well to score by three and a quarter lengths.

Jockey Shane Foley said: "He was a bit keen the last day at Tipperary and I wanted to get a bit of cover today. He's come forward well from the run, which John's horses usually do.

"You can never be sure, especially on that ground, but he got through it well."

Kupa River (9/4) had the Follow Listowel Races On Twitter Maiden in the bag from some way out and he strode right away in the straight, crossing the line with nine lengths in hand of runner-up Free Ranger.
