Willie Mullins may have his eyes on the conclusion of the UK trainers' championship at Sandown on Saturday, but he still bagged a pair of winners at Kilbeggan the previous night, starting with Valyssa Monterg.

Sent off the 4-6 favourite for the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares Beginners Chase on the back of a solid effort over timber at Ayr, the seven-year-old tracked leader Lenora for much of the way.

Mikey Fogarty had to push the imposing mare to get upsides Lenora approaching the last, but a mistake from the pacesetter put that rival out of contention, allowing Valyssa Monterg to ease to success over Knockraha Pylon.

Mullins made it a double when Kolumbus (2-1 favourite) landed the Loughnagore INH Flat Race under the trainer's son Patrick.

Jumping also proved crucial in the Pieta House Darkness Into Light 5k Walk/Run Handicap Hurdle as Flaviana (9-2 favourite) landed the spoils.

Jessica Harrington's mare was pushed into the lead before the second last by Robbie Colgan, but Dixie Highway was level at the last, though a clumsier leap than the winner meant she had too much ground to make up on the run-in, going down by half a length.

Bolger said: " She appreciated the better ground.

"She's always showed us a bit, and put it all together today. She's a bit keen and would like a true run race."
