Charlie Stout is thriving on his racing and backed up Saturday's Naas win with victory in the Silks @ DownRoyal Rated Novice Hurdle at Down Royal on Wednesday.

Eamonn Corbett made a mid-race move to lead on Shane Nolan's progressive six-year-old and, from that point, he was never headed.

Cadeau Du Bresil attempted to make a nuisance of himself, while Aretesone briefly looked a threat, but Charlie Stout wasn't for passing and stayed on strongly to score by two and three-quarter lengths as the 9/4 joint-favourite.

"He's improving with every run," said Nolan. "We were hopeful coming here today. It's not ideal coming back after three or four days but he's tough.

"He's tough and hardy and I didn't think he had much of a race the other day. It's more that he was done for toe then and was staying on strongly at the line.

"They were going no gallop so Eamonn decided to let him roll along in front today. He stays well, he will stay a lot further, and he doesn't mind that ground. We'll find something for him again in three or four weeks' time."

CHEAP PURCHASE

Holeinthewall Bar proved much too strong in the Down Royal Handicap Chase. The Gordon Elliott-trained 9/4 favourite hadn't managed to get his head in front in 16 previous attempts over the larger obstacles, but he cruised to the front approaching the third-last and hardly broke sweat in seeing off James by 15 lengths.

"It was a low grade race but it's still nice to win it," said Elliott. "We bought him for handy enough money at Doncaster sales and it's a syndicate of lads that have him. We'll see what the handicapper does now. He's in again later on in the week. He is what he is and we'll have a bit of fun with him."

Elliott followed up when Jamie Codd steered home expensive newcomer Last Minute Man (3/1) to land the Dark Horse Wine Bar At Down Royal Flat Race.

BLACKMORE DOUBLE

Honest Robber (8/1) has virtually no miles on the clock for a 12-year-old, and proved that age is just a number by breaking his duck in the St. Patrick's Punter Pack Handicap Chase.

Trainer Shark Hanlon doubled up in the Bet With The Tote Handicap Hurdle courtesy of Camlann (5/1) who, like Honest Robber, was partnered by Rachael Blackmore.

A Great View showed his appreciation for having his sights lowered by landing the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Rated Novice Chase.

Denis Cullen's charge cut little ice in races won by Min, Yorkhill and Ballyoishin but was dropped into 0-123 company and was sent off at 3/1.

Market leader No Dice was in front when crashing out at the fourth-last, leaving Double Scores in front.

A Great View closed up, only to make a mistake two out, but Mark Walsh got him back on an even keel to challenge by the final fence and he cleared it well to score by a couple of lengths.

"I'm delighted with that. His jumping just needs to improve a little bit," said Cullen.

"He's a bit novicey but he's progressing. The race worked out for him. It cut up for him and he got his opportunity.

"Hopefully he'll improve again and progress a little bit from that. He was a nice hurdler.

"He was very lucky as he nearly got brought down when the horse fell in front of him. He had to go right around him.

"Mark wanted to get him under the second-last and he just kept galloping. He needs to learn a bit yet."

Indy Island stepped forward to claim top honours in the Sean Graham Bookmakers Maiden Hurdle.

Well Joey went clear between the final two flights but JJ Slevin went in pursuit on the 10/1 shot and Indy Island, who won between the flags but hadn't shown a massive amount under Rules, picked him up to score by two and a half lengths.

Trainer Stuart Crawford said: "Two miles was probably going to be short enough for her if that rain hadn't come. I sold Well Joey to Prunella Dobbs and I personally couldn't see her beating him."

Davy Russell was stood down for the rest of the meeting at Down Royal following a fall from No Dice in the opening race.

The Gold Cup-winning rider was reported to be "sore" after the tumble at the fourth-last fence when leading on the Tony Martin-trained 2/1 favourite in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Rated Novice Chase.

As a result, Russell, who won the Grade 1 Arkle Novice Chase on Some Plan at Leopardstown on Sunday, was forced miss his remaining three rides on the card.
