Morgiana switch

THE Grade 1 Unibet Morgiana Hurdle at Punchestown has been moved to Saturday, November 16th at the request of the sponsors, to avoid a clash with the Unibet Greatwood Hurdle at Cheltenham the following day. Six of the 11 entries are trained by Willie Mullins, and they include Klassical Dream, last year’s winner, Sharjah, and the Newmarket Cesarewitch winner Stratum.

Irish Field writers up for awards

TWO writers representing The Irish Field have been nominated for awards at this year’s Horserace Writers & Photographers Association Derby Awards. Ronan Groome has been nominated for the new Emerging Talent Award while long-time contributor Simon Rowlands, who writes the popular Time Will Tell column, has been nominated for the Specialist Writer Award, also a new category. The awards, in their 53rd year, will be presented in London on December 2nd.

Irish in Rosehill

TWO Irish-trained horses look set to start in the first running of the A$7.5 million Golden Eagle at Rosehill in Sydney next Saturday. Aidan O’Brien’s Never No More is guaranteed a place in the line-up for the seven and a half furlong race, and Michael O’Callaghan’s I Am Superman also looks assured to be among the 18 starters. There is prize money down to 10th place.

Top mares to stud

HERMOSA and Magical will be covered by No Nay Never in 2020. Hermosa completed the 1000 Guineas double at Newmarket and the Curragh in May, while Magical recently completed the Champion Stakes double at Leopardstown and Ascot. Hermosa will not race again but Magical is expected to runu at the Breeders’ Cup.

Summer for sale

THE Richard Fahey-trained Summer Sands has been added to next week’s Tattersalls Horses In Training Sale. Rated 109, the son of Coach House finished third in the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes a week before winning the Redcar Two-Year-Old Trophy. Also added to the catalogue is Ten Year Ticket, a debut winner for trainer Jim Bolger and owner Nicky Teehan at the Curragh on Tuesday. The four-day sale starts on Monday.

New stallion at Whytemount Stud

FEEL Like Dancing will stand alongside Affinisea and Valirann at Ronnie O’Neill’s Whytemount Stud in Kells, Co Kilkenny next year. The Galileo horse has already had seven winners from his first crop of French-bred four-year-olds. Feel Like Dancing was trained by John Gosden and won the Group 3 Bahrain Stakes at Newmarket. His fee is €1,500 for colt and €500 for filly. O’Neill said: “He arrived last Sunday and is a big, powerful horse.”
