New Group 1 winning stallion to stud
THE Group 1 winning two-year-old Unfortunately will stand with Linda and Reddy Coffey at Springfield House Stud in Co Tipperary next year.
A son of the late Society Rock, Unfortunately was trained by Karl Burke for Cheveley Park Stud and won the Prix Morny and was the champion juvenile in France of his year.
Cheveley Park will retain an interest in the stallion, its managing director Chris Richardson saying: “As with all the Cheveley Park stallions, we’ll be supporting him with our own broodmare band as well as at the sales.”
He continued: “We’ve a long and successful relationship with the Fitzsimons/Coffey family who manage our bloodstock in Ireland and we look forward to standing Unfortunately in partnership with them.
“Cheveley Park’s Newmarket-based stallions have always attracted strong support from Irish-based breeders and given our increased involvement in Irish racing it’s an ideal opportunity for us to strengthen that connection.
“In addition, Unfortunately’s sire Society Rock has had exceptional results from the mares he covered at Tally-Ho Stud and the pool of mares available to him in Ireland will provide him with increased opportunities to become a successful son of his sire”.
Reddy Coffey added: “It’s a great opportunity for Irish breeders to use a Group 1-winning son of Society Rock who was precocious and fast. He’s a must-see individual, with a super walk and has developed great muscle tone”.
O’Callaghan wins
TONY O’Callaghan of Tally-Ho Stud has won the Connolly’s Red Mills Bredeer of the Month Award for July. He bred A’Ali, winner of the Group 2 Prix Robert Papin. The son of the late Society Rock (who stood at Tally-Ho) also won the Group 2 Norfolk Stakes and finished fifth in the Group 1 Prix Morny last Sunday.
Skitter entry
SKITTER Scatter could reappear in the Group 3 Fairy Bridge Stakes at Tipperary next Thursday. A Group 1 winner last season when trained by Patrick Prendergast, the filly joined John Oxx’s stable during the winter and ran in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket. After failing to land a blow in the classic she was found to have torn a muscle and missed her summer targets.
The Scat Daddy filly stands out among the entries for Thursday’s seven a half-furlong race, for which she escapes a penalty. She has also been entered for the Group 1 Matron Stakes at Leopardstown on Irish Champions Weekend.
