Hassett ‘extremely positive’ after treatment
JOHNNY Hassett is due home from Germany today following treatment for cancer which reportedly has gone well.
The Co Clare breeze-up consignor was diagnosed with lung cancer in June and was initially told there was no treatment available for his condition. However, an oncologist in Germany who specialises in these cases was contacted and agreed to treat the 49-year-old, who has a wife and two children.
Fellow breeze-up consignors set up a GoFundMe page to help with medical costs. A target of €250,000 was set and, by Friday morning, it had raised over €270,000.
A close friend of Hassett said: “There has been an amazing response to the fund from the breeze-up sector, the wider industry and the public. We have reached our target, so we are closing it this weekend. His friends and family are very grateful.
“Johnny is doing well. He got good news in the past 10 days and he is due home on Saturday. He is an extremely positive person.”
