Noted artist Tom Spelman dies

TOM Spelman, a noted equestrian artist from Robertstown in Co Kildare, died peacefully last Sunday. A former managing director of Philips Ireland, his funeral took place yesterday and his family has asked that, in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Irish Cancer Society.

Flying start for Rathasker sire

MAURICE Burns is thrilled at the great start to the season being enjoyed by Rathasker Stud’s first season sire Bungle Inthejungle.

The son of Exceed And Excel has 95 juveniles to represent him this year, including Jungle Jane (Willie McCreery) and Jungle Inthebungle (Mick Channon) who have already won.

“Bungle is a big, powerful 16.2hh sprinter,” said Burns. “He won the Molecomb and the Cornwallis Stakes, and he is out of a family full of speed.

“Bungle’s half-brother Muarrab won the Group 1 Golden Shaheen and he has in total six blacktype horses as siblings.”

Brenda Norris laid to rest in Kildare

BRENDA Norris, mother of racing photographer Caroline and wife of the late Paddy, a successful trainer, passed away on Sunday.

A regular racegoer, Mrs Norris is survived by her children Robert, Inés and Caroline, sister Oonagh, son-in-law Pat and grandchildren Michael and Vickie.
