O’Callaghan win

TONY O’Callaghan of Tally-Ho Stud in Mullingar has won the Connolly’s Red Mills Bredeer of the Month competition for August. He bred Group 2 Lowther Stakes winner Fairyland, a daughter of Kodiac who stands at Tally-Ho Stud.

Big entry for Foran Equine final

A TOTAL of 33 trainers have entered 64 horses for the €120,000 Foran Equine Irish EBF Auction Series final at Naas on Sunday October 21st. The entries include six winners from the qualifying legs of the series including the Ger Lyons-trained Kestrel Prince and Burmese Waltz. Lyons is also responsible for a further six more entries. Jessica Harrington has five entries with her Gowran Park winner, Dragon Roll, possibly the pick of the quintet at this stage. Trainer Sheila Lavery, who won this event in 2015 with Sevenleft, has four entries engaged. Horses purchased for €72,000 or less at this year’s yearling sales will be eligible for the series in 2019.

PTP fixtures

THE Suir Vale point-to-point scheduled for Knockinroe on Sunday, October 28th and the Co Roscommon fixture scheduled for Rockfield on Sunday, November 4th have both been cancelled.

New $7m race

US racecourse operator The Stronach Group has announced the addition of a $7 million turf race to the Pegasus World Cup card from next year. Chairman and president Belinda Stronach said: “The appetite for a turf race is strong and the decision to include a premier turf race is part of the ongoing evolution of the Pegasus World Cup.”
