Good catalogue for Ascot December

The Tattersalls Ireland Ascot December Sale on Monday week (December 7th) has attracted 125 entries.

The catalogue can be viewed at tattersalls.ie and includes mares in foal to leading stallions, blacktype horses, winning point-to-pointers and well-bred flat yearlings.

Horses in training include recent winners El Fenix, King Cool and Kilna Shane, as well as the group-placed Galileo colt Altruistic.

Plus 10 foals popular at Goffs

Foals registered for the Plus 10 bonus scheme were in demand at the Goffs November Foal Sale last week where they sold for 50% more than non-registered lots, at a €22,500 median.

Breeders consigning Plus 10 foals had paid a registration fee of €187.50 into Plus 10 and these horses on average provided a 40 times return on the registration fee.

Egan ban

Darren Egan, the former flat jockey from Longford who made such a bright start to his career in Britain, has been disqualified with immediate effect after being found guilty of corruption charges by the disciplinary panel of the British Horseracing Authority. Egan has not ridden in Britain since October 2013 and is believed to be living in America. He was alleged to have conspired with punter Philip Langford who laid a number of Egan’s mounts to lose. The panel came to the view that “all the allegations of breach of the Rules of Racing were clearly established”.

Becher Chase for Goonyella

Goonyella is on course for another crack at the Betfred Becher Chase at Aintree next Saturday following his encouraging return over hurdles at Cork recently.

The eight-year-old won the Midlands Grand National and was second in the Coral Scottish Grand National earlier this year. “All being well, we hope to bring him over for the Becher,” said trainer Jim Dreaper.
