Paradiso sold

IL Paradiso, who finished a luckless third for Aidan O’Brien in this week’s Melbourne Cup, has been sold to continue his career in Australia. The horse is set to join trainer Chris Waller after Melbourne-based businessman Aziz Kheir led an Australian consortium to acquire a controlling interest in the Galileo colt. Coolmore will retain a part-share.

Betting industry promotes safe gambling

THE Irish betting industry is supporting Responsible Gambling Week, which started last Thursday. The initiative aims to stimulate a national conversation about safer gambling, highlighting the tools, advice and help available to customers, and the initiatives being taken by operators to promote social responsibility.

Sharon Byrne, chairman of the Irish Bookmakers Association, said: “Responsible Gambling Week give operators and staff a greater opportunity to share the message directly with customers during the week, in a relaxed and casual manner.”

Doncaster loses November Handicap

TODAY’S meeting at Doncaster was cancelled on Friday morning due to a waterlogged track.

The fixture was due to be the finale of the British turf flat season, with the November Handicap the feature event. The Listed Gillies Fillies’ Stakes on the card has been rescheduled for Lingfield’s all-weather meeting next Saturday.

Today’s Co Down point-to-point was cancelled on Monday, as was next Sunday’s Drumlin Harriers meeting.

Fairyhouse was forced to cancel its jumps fixture last Tuesday due to very heavy rain. The meeting has been rescheduled to next Tuesday and Fairyhouse also races on Monday. Manager Peter Roe said there has already been more rainfall recorded at Fairyhouse this year than in any of the previous three years.

Gilltown fees

SEA The Stars has had his covering fee for 2020 increased from €135,000 to €150,000. Crystal Ocean, Stradivarius and Star Catcher kept the Gilltown Stud stallion’s name in lights this year. Dual Derby winner Harzand has had his fee trimmed by 20% to €8,000.
