GOFFS has extended its Sportsman’s Sale to a second day due to demand for places. The yearling sale will take place on Thursday and Friday, October 3rd and 4th, immediately following the two-day Orby Sale.

The Sportsman’s Sale has traditionally been a one-day sale for “commercial” yearlings.

It was extended to two days in 2016 but reverted to one day the following year. Last year’s sale returned an 85% clearance rate and it was 86% in 2017.

This year’s two-day sale will be ‘even’ with horses catalogued alphabetically from the start of Thursday through to the end of Friday.

Goffs boss Henry Beeby said: “The extension of the Sportsman’s means that we can accommodate a higher number of yearlings that meet the strict criteria we set out for this sale. We will have a specific marketing campaign for the Sportsman’s Sale alongside the Orby, and vendors can rest assured that we will work tirelessly to deliver the best result for every yearling entrusted to us.”

The Sportsman’s Sale has a reputation for attracting an international buying bench. Filip Zwicky, Goffs’ Scandinavian agent, said: “There are more and more Scandinavian buyers coming to Goffs each year, and two days of the Sportsman’s Sale will be a huge draw for owners and trainers as many have had success with these graduates in recent years.”

Kishore Mirpuri, the company’s Eastern European agent, added: “Demand for horses in Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary and Russia continues to grow, and a second day of horses of Sportsman’s calibre will appeal to many buyers from the Easter European region.”
