ALL contact tracing connected to the positive Covid-19 test returned by jockey Shane Crosse last week has been completed with just three other cases confirmed.

Brothers Mikey and Danny Sheehy, both jockeys who work with Crosse in Joseph O’Brien’s yard, tested positive, along with one other unlicensed person. The three jockeys are asymptomatic and said to be feeling no effects of the virus.

Dr Jennifer Pugh, senior medical officer with the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board, said: “All contact tracing has been completed and in line with Public Health advice. We tested the close contacts of the positive cases as well as the casual contacts for reassurance purposes. This included jockeys in the changing area at the races and staff in the yards involved.”

Asked if any other people connected to the positive cases had been asked to stay away from the races for a period as a precaution, Dr Pugh said: “Stablestaff [working for Joseph O’Brien] were prevented from racing last weekend until testing was complete. However, the stable’s horses were permitted to run using staff from a different yard.

“All other close contacts are self-restricting their movements for 14 days but these numbers thankfully are small. The guidance for those who tested positive changed mid-week, so the jockeys involved will be allowed to return after 10 days’ isolation from the day of their test.”
