Bernardini put down

BERNARDINI, one of America’s top stallions, has been put down due to laminitis. He was 18 and stood at Darley’s Jonabell Farm in Kentucky.

Bred by Sheikh Mohammed, the son of A.P. Indy was trained by Tom Albertrani to win the Preakness, Travers Stakes and Jockey Club Gold Cup in 2006. He was the world’s highest-rated three-year-old of that year.

His first crop of foals included four Grade 1 winners and he went on to sire another 11 top-level winners in his career. His best performers were Stay Thirsty and Alpha.
