THE Irish Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association has issued a final call to those interested in attending any of its summer education programme classes in Kill next month.

Starting on Monday week, July 3rd, a total of 10 courses will be staged in the ITBA’s offices in Kill. Topics include health and safety and employment legislation.

The one-day course on employment legislation on July 3rd, supplied by PA Solutions, will address all aspects of general legislation requirements including an employment contract workshop.

On the morning of Tuesday, July 4th, a Simplify Your Equine Admin module will cover managing vaccination schedules, sales schedules and online foal registrations. The afternoon session is entitled Internet Made Easy and will assist breeders in making the most out of websites and social media.

Safety statements are the focus on Monday morning, July 17th. The afternoon session is devoted to safety induction for breeders and stud farm staff.

On Wednesday, July 19th there is a morning module on fire awareness training. Risk assessment will be tackled in the afternoon module.

Training in manual handling will be given on the morning of Thursday, July 20th. Chemical awareness training will be given that afternoon.

A three-day First Aid Responder course will run from Wednesday, July 19th to Friday, July 21st.

All morning modules start at 10am and finish at 1pm. The afternoon sessions run from 2pm to 4.30pm. A place on any of the courses costs €20 for ITBA members and €30 for non-members.

Lunch will be provided for attendees completing two modules on the same day. Places can be reserved by calling the ITBA on 045 877543. The ITBA also has information on a chainsaw training course.

The ITBA educational programme is co-funded by the Department of Agriculture’s Equine Technical Support & Equine Breeding Schemes.

APPRENTICE SCHEME

Next Friday, June 30th, is the closing date for applications for the Irish Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association Next Generation Apprenticeship Scheme.

The scheme has established itself as a platform for young breeding and racing enthusiasts to begin a career in the Irish bloodstock industry.

Two candidates will be selected to work in three key areas of the industry over a 12-month period.
