THE form book was shredded in the Prix d’Aumale at Chantilly by Soustraction who beat Efaadah by a comfortable length with the Charlie Appleby-trained Wild Illusion close up in third.

When the winner and runner-up met at Deauville, Efaadah was three lengths superior.

This time it was the only maiden in this Group 3 one-mile race who came up trumps.

Maxime Guyon gave Soustraction (by Lope De Vega) a perfect ride by hugging the rail throughout. He slipped through to lead one furlong out and was not hard pressed to hold off the odds-on favourite.

The filly is trained for the Wertheimer brothers by Carlos Laffon-Parias. He said: “Soustraction has come on since her debut when some of the runners where fitter than others. I think that Chantilly suits her better than Deauville, where I was a little disappointed.

“Having won this Group 3 race, the logical programme is now the Prix Marcel Boussac.”

Freddy Head was rather disappointed with Efaadah. “We beat the winner when she made her debut. I want to see how my filly recovers after the race. Maybe our plans won’t change.”

One can envisage that Efaadah might turn out for the Marcel Boussac but Head did warn before the d’Aumale that Dansili’s progeny often do not act on testing ground and it was 3.7 [very soft] at Chantilly last Sunday.
