THE European Federation of Thoroughbred Breeders Associations has a series of questions it would like answered by racing authorities on the proposed testing of thoroughbreds on stud farms.

In a statement issued on Friday, the EFTBA said their questions were compiled by a working group which includes leading trainer John Oxx and veterinary surgeon Des Leadon.

“The aims of the working group were to review currently available information and to identify to the EFTBA board the principal questions that it should address to the racing authorities on the proposed extension of anabolic steroid testing,” the statement said.

“The working group have documented questions that the board of EFTBA can reasonably address to the racing authorities in a constructive manner and found that there is a spectrum of issues that vary between countries that require careful consideration and evaluation.

“These questions are intended to enable EFTBA to seek reassurance that they either have been, or will be considered by the racing authorities and that the answers will satisfy and reassure the breeding industry as represented by EFTBA.

“The Working Group report was forwarded to the EFTBA board in late January and has now been considered, approved and adopted. The EFTBA board have forwarded the report to the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities with a request for a meeting to discuss it and with a further request that it be forwarded to the IFHA member organisations.”

It is thought that the IFHA will consider the EFTBA questions at their meeting at the end of March.
